It’s a beautiful day in Walkerton as the 2026 International Plowing Match gets underway. Tent city is bustling with activity with lots of attendees, exhibitors, vendors, food trucks, live bands, beer tents, and of course lots and lots of farm equipment.
The OLA is set up again in tent city this year. This time we are right in the middle of the action, beside the 150 foot high Canada flag. There was lots of interest in the OLA from the people of Ontario, as it’s hard not to be intrigued by our large display of signs. Some folks have heard of us; others had not. Some people were not sure if this organization was relevant for them, but after a conversation they soon realized that maybe they should take the time to learn a little about their property rights.
Driving through tent city in the parade was an encouraging experience, as we got lots of waves and thumbs up of approval from the audience. A couple of our members had OLA signs held up to the parade as it passed by, receiving lots of support from the NDP and Green party floats. It just goes to demonstrate that as a non-partisan group our legitimacy goes beyond party lines. We even had a member get interviewed by the CBC!
And of course, we can’t reach out to as many people as we did without the efforts of our team of volunteers. A special thanks goes out to the Saugeen Regional chapter for handing out business cards, engaging the public, and passing on a bit of knowledge. Our membership has grown already in the first day of events, with four more successful days to come!
