PM Trudeau has dug down to the municipal level, bypassing the provincial legislatures that create the municipalities, to impose “green energy” on cities, towns and townships by offering bribes.
He is not alone. The UN, via the WEF, IPCC and the ICLEI policy, have also approached our municipalities directly. They boast that their aim is to put pressure on the nation from the bottom up. Their techniques are two-fold.
First, some UBC-based organization penetrated our towns and townships to impose “climate action plans” on them. The plans slowly but irresistibly create ever more by-laws, decreeing what may and may not be planted by farmers and denying the right of property owners to make their own decisions. Three years ago, “climate action plans” persuaded some councils to declare “climate emergencies.”
More recently, a group entered Grey County and is trying to expand by creating a “tri-county” group of Dufferin, Grey and Wellington Counties to impose building and water standards on builders and homeowners in addition to the Ontario Building Code. Regulations are proposed to reinforce house roofs to support solar panels, etc. One can imagine rules that forbid chimneys, private wells, etc are coming soon.
Federal and UN interference in our municipal and provincial jurisdictions is neither legal nor sensible. Certain powers are applied at the local level for sound reasons. For example, anything to do with “climate” (ie, weather) must vary from one municipality to another because terrain, height above sea level, ground cover, etc are all different; so supplementary building standards may vary as well. Other factors, such as tax revenues, depend heavily on differences in population, personal incomes, etc. Three counties with over twenty municipalities cannot accept a common additional building code.
For over 200 years these intrusions have not been needed or requested by Dufferin, Wellington and Grey Counties. A “climate emergency” does not exist as far as the inhabitants can determine. It is inconceivable that foreign elements should endeavour to tell us how to live. I ask that your government reject any attempt to intrude upon our lives and revoke the “climate emergencies” and “climate action plans” that continue to advance changes in our governance.
