Alberta Woman Allowed to Sue Government and Gas Company over Contamination of Well Water

According to The Tyee, an independent online magazine, Jessica Ernst, a businesswoman and oil patch scientist defiantly challenging the regulation of hydraulic fracturing in Alberta, has scored another legal victory. An Alberta judge has ruled that Ernst can sue the government and Encana, a leading North American energy producer over contamination of her well water.

Ernst claims that Encana’s fracking operations have contaminated her well. Whether you believe fracking is safe or not, this may be an interesting case to watch, as a giant energy company and the province of Alberta duke it out in court against an environmental group.

Encana states its position on its website http://encana.com/news-stories/in-the-news/statement-filed-response-jessica-ernst.html . Ernst has a fundraising site where she explains her concerns http://www.ernstversusencana.ca
